At 4:52 a.m. today (Sept. 10), emergency services received a report that a fire had broken out in a mobile phone while it was charging on the sixth floor of a nine-story dormitory building at Kyungpook National University in Sangyeok-dong, Buk-gu, Daegu.
The fire burned parts of the mobile phone and a mattress before extinguishing itself within minutes.
While there were no casualties, the fire alarm was triggered, prompting around 200 students and other occupants inside the dormitory to evacuate in the early morning hours.
Fire authorities stated, "We plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire, including possible overcharging."
