Singer and actor Kim Min-jong has brought his conflict to a tentative close by abruptly canceling the criminal complaint he filed against junior entertainer MC Mong, who had raised suspicions regarding his alleged involvement in "Baduk gambling."
Law Firm Oh-Kims, Kim's legal representative, announced that it officially withdrew the complaint filed against MC Mong with the Jongno Police Station in Seoul on the 9th for violation of the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, etc. This decision follows MC Mong admitting fault and directly apologizing for his remarks, bringing the mudslinging match between senior and junior figures in the entertainment industry to a dramatic reconciliation.
The controversy began previously when MC Mong mentioned Kim Min-jong's real name during a personal live broadcast, raising gambling suspicions. MC Mong made revelations implying that "Kim Min-jong is a member of a Baduk gambling ring and receives tips at a gambling house with tens of millions of won in stakes." At the time, these remarks spread rapidly across online communities and social media, dealing a critical blow to Kim Min-jong's morality and image.
In particular, Kim Min-jong appealed that he suffered financial and psychological damage as discussions over his upcoming Hollywood project, which he had prepared for a long time, were abruptly halted in the aftermath of this incident, while advertising contracts that were progressing positively fell through one after another.
As the situation escalated, MC Mong bowed his head officially during a TikTok live broadcast on September 5. He admitted that he emotionally criticized his senior Kim Min-jong without clearly verifying the facts, and earnestly asked for forgiveness, stating that mentioning Kim Min-jong itself was a huge mistake on his part. Following the complaint, the two reportedly met in person to have a candid conversation, during which MC Mong openly admitted his mistake and repeatedly expressed his apologies.
Kim Min-jong emphasized that despite the massive tangible and intangible losses he suffered from this incident, he chose to show leniency rather than pursue legal responsibility to the end. He explained the reason for accepting MC Mong's apology by stating that giving another chance to someone who admits fault and apologizes is also a necessary attitude as a senior.
However, as Kim Min-jong announced that he is publicly forgiving and wrapping things up with MC Mong—who had extensively raised suspicions of illegal gambling—voices of doubt remain among netizens regarding the sudden background of the complaint withdrawal and the substance of the suspicions. Given the considerable intensity of the revelations previously made by MC Mong, some voices argue that investigative agencies should clearly uncover the truth about the matter.
