Singer and actor Kim Min-jong has officially brought his conflict with junior entertainer MC Mong to an end by dropping the criminal complaint he filed against him over allegations linking him to illegal gambling.
Kim Min-jong's legal representative, Law Firm Oh Kims, announced that the complaint filed against MC Mong at the Jongno Police Station in Seoul on charges of violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection was officially withdrawn on the 9th. According to the firm, the decision came after MC Mong admitted his fault regarding his remarks and issued a direct apology, bringing the muddy dispute between the senior and junior figures in the entertainment industry to a dramatic and peaceful close.
The controversy began when MC Mong mentioned Kim Min-jong by name during a personal live broadcast and raised gambling suspicions. MC Mong made explosive claims, stating that "Kim Min-jong is a member of Baduki gambling and receives tips at a gambling house with stakes of tens of millions of won." The remarks quickly spread across online communities and social media, dealing a severe blow to Kim Min-jong's morality and public image.
Kim Min-jong stated that he suffered heavy financial and psychological damage as a result of the incident, noting that discussions for his upcoming Hollywood project, which he had prepared for a long time, were suspended, and lucrative commercial contracts that were progressing positively fell through one after another.
As the situation escalated, MC Mong bowed his head in an official apology during a TikTok live broadcast on September 5th. He acknowledged that he emotionally criticized his senior Kim Min-jong without clearly verifying the facts, and sincerely asked for forgiveness, stating that mentioning Kim Min-jong was entirely his fault. After the complaint was filed, the two met in person to have an honest conversation, during which MC Mong reportedly admitted his mistake without hesitation and repeatedly expressed his apologies.
Kim Min-jong emphasized that despite the massive tangible and intangible losses he suffered from the incident, he chose to show grace rather than pursue legal responsibility to the end. He explained his reasons for accepting MC Mong's apology by stating that giving another chance to someone who acknowledges their mistake and apologizes is a necessary attitude for a senior.
However, as Kim Min-jong announced that he is publicly forgiving MC Mong and moving on from the allegations of illegal gambling, some online users are still voicing doubts regarding the sudden withdrawal of the complaint and the substance of the suspicions. Given the high level of the allegations raised by MC Mong, some argue that investigative agencies should have clearly brought the truth to light.
Kim Min-jong's side told MC Mong, "Let's support each other and move forward in our respective places," making it clear that they wish to continue their activities in their respective fields rather than letting the situation grow any further.
