A grandmother in her 50s has been indicted in connection with the tragic death of an 11-year-old child who had been living at a church in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province.
The Cheonan Branch of the Daejeon District Prosecutors Office announced that it has indicted a woman in her 50s, identified as A, on charges including child abuse resulting in death.
A is accused of binding her 11-year-old grandson, B, by his hands and feet with chains to a bed on August 5 of last year and leaving him unattended for approximately 38 hours, leading to his death.
A 60s pastor, identified as C, at the church where B was staying, was also implicated in the crime, and prosecutors indicted C on the same charges on the 1st.
Investigations revealed that the suspects kept B bound to the bed to prevent him from leaving the church, abandoning him except for brief periods allowed for meals or using the restroom.
Prosecutors also uncovered evidence pointing to additional abuse inflicted on B between late July and early August prior to his death, prompting them to add child abuse charges against A.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine whether any other individuals were involved in the case beyond the grandmother and the pastor.
