▲ Fire authorities removing a beehive
At around 7:30 a.m. today (September 9), a 119 report was received stating that a large number of citizens had been stung by bees at an elementary school in Seo-gu, Busan.
Dispatched fire authorities transported eight local residents—suspected of having been stung by hornets—to hospitals or provided them with on-site first aid. The victims include four people in their 60s, three in their 70s, and one in their 80s.
Because the accident occurred before school arrival hours, there were no casualties among students or faculty members.
Immediately after the accident, the school instructed students to stay at home, but since most of them had already completed their commutes, classes are proceeding normally with a focus on safety.
After controlling the area around the scene, fire authorities discovered a beehive on a 5-meter-tall tree near the main school gate and finished removing it.
