In response to growing public concern over security following a series of missing persons cases in Jeju, the Jeju Provincial Police Agency is comprehensively strengthening its response system for missing persons.
The Jeju Provincial Police Agency, in cooperation with relevant organizations and groups including the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, is implementing comprehensive measures for public safety in Jeju.
Through these measures, the police will thoroughly review the entire response process—from missing persons reports to searches, discovery, and case closure—while significantly bolstering the personnel dedicated to missing persons investigations.
First, face-to-face verification of both reporters and missing persons will be established as a standard rule, and missing persons reports filed the previous day will be directly reviewed by police station chiefs to ensure the appropriateness of the case closure process.
In addition, cooperation with other jurisdictions will be strengthened so that the safety of missing persons can be swiftly verified even if their whereabouts are confirmed in other regions.
The number of personnel in the missing persons investigation teams at each police station will be expanded from the existing 4 to 5 officers to 9 officers per team.
Eight members of the missing persons investigation team will work in shifts to maintain an actual two-person duty system even at night, with the criminal duty team providing support in case of emergencies.
The police will also expand foot and fixed-point patrols.
By intensively deploying regional crime prevention patrol units and criminal duty teams to vulnerable areas, the police will strengthen visible policing so that residents can genuinely feel the impact of police activities.
A complete inspection of crime prevention facilities, such as CCTVs, emergency bells, and lighting systems along Olle and Dulle trails, will be conducted to upgrade any inadequate facilities.
Aerial patrols utilizing police helicopters will also be carried out.
Furthermore, the police plan to strengthen victim protection for relational crimes—such as stalking, domestic violence, and dating violence—as well as monitoring for online false information.
