Broadcaster Lee Hyuk-jae is under police investigation after crashing his vehicle while driving under the influence.
Incheon Yeonsu Police Station announced that it has booked and is investigating Lee on charges of drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act.
Lee is accused of driving under the influence at around 10:00 p.m. yesterday (the 8th) on a road in Songdo-dong, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, and rear-ending a motorcycle that was stopped at a traffic light.
Following the accident, police responded to a report from the motorcycle rider and measured Lee's blood alcohol concentration, which fell within the range for license suspension—0.03% or higher and less than 0.08%.
While the injured motorcycle rider is reportedly not seriously hurt, police are considering additionally applying charges of causing injury through occupational negligence under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents once the extent of the victim's injuries is confirmed.
Lee, who was virtually expelled from the broadcasting industry following a drunk assault controversy in 2010, has continued to make remarks defending former President Yoon Suk Yeol and the court riot following the emergency martial law situation in 2024.
Police plan to summon Lee again soon to conduct further investigations into the exact circumstances of the drunk driving incident.
