A public official in his 30s has been transferred to the prosecution in custody for visiting and murdering his wife at an address exposed in a divorce lawsuit filed after she went into hiding to escape domestic violence.
The Gwangju Police Station in Gyeonggi Province transferred the suspect, identified as A, who was arrested on charges including retaliatory murder under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes, child abuse under the Child Welfare Act, violation of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Domestic Violence, and special trespass, today (the 9th).
Suspect A, whose face was completely covered with a black hat and mask, did not answer questions from reporters—such as whether he went to find his wife out of anger after receiving the divorce papers, whether he intended to kill her from the beginning, and whether he felt sorry for the child who witnessed the crime—as he left the Bundang Police Station detention center and boarded a transport vehicle heading for the Seongnam Branch of the Suwon District Prosecutor's Office.
Previously, police decided not to disclose personal information such as the face and name of suspect A, taking into consideration the wishes of the bereaved family.
Suspect A, a current public official, is accused of stabbing and killing his wife with a weapon around 7:20 a.m. on the 1st in the stairwell of a multi-family housing building in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, where she was hiding after leaving home to escape domestic violence.
