The Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA) are erecting a statue of former head coach Phil Jackson, who led the team to its glory days.
The Lakers announced on the 9th (Korean time) that they have decided to build a statue outside their home arena, Crypto.com Arena, to honor Jackson's contributions.
The statue unveiling ceremony will take place on April 9, 2027, local time, on the day of a game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
After guiding the Chicago Bulls to six NBA championships, Jackson joined the Lakers in 1999 and led them to five NBA Finals titles and seven NBA Finals appearances over 11 seasons.
He guided the team to the playoffs every year until his tenure ended in 2011 and recorded 610 wins, the most by any coach in Lakers history.
