Yong Hye-in, nominee for Minister of Gender Equality and Family, served as a hearing committee member verifying a previous gender equality minister nominee three years ago. Critics point out that she is responding in the exact same manner, despite having fiercely criticized the past nominee's attitude of deferring explanations to the hearing.
Reporter Park Chan-beom has the story.

Nominee Yong Hye-in made her first commute to the confirmation hearing preparation office on the 2nd.
She took questions from reporters for about 10 minutes, but starting the next day, she stopped answering questions regarding whether she would resign from her lawmaker position, repeatedly giving only brief answers that she will clarify various suspicions at the National Assembly confirmation hearing.
[Yong Hye-in / Nominee for Minister of Gender Equality and Family (Day before yesterday): (Do you still maintain your stance on holding your lawmaker position concurrently?) …….]
Three years ago, when she was a freshman lawmaker, Nominee Yong served as a member of the National Assembly confirmation hearing committee for then-Ministry of Gender Equality and Family nominee Kim Haeng.
When nominee Kim abruptly halted her doorstep Q&A sessions after five days amid a barrage of suspicions at the time, Yong criticized her as follows:
[Yong Hye-in / Member of the Confirmation Hearing Committee for Minister of Gender Equality and Family Nominee (September 2023): Nominee Kim has even halted her doorstep Q&A sessions, stating that she will 'explain everything at the confirmation hearing.' This leaves us no choice but to interpret it as running away because she cannot clear herself.]
Regarding allegations that the Labor Party, to which Yong previously belonged, had a so-called "underground organization" with discriminatory guidelines such as bans on abortion or requirements for premarital chastity, she stated the following:
[Yong Hye-in / Nominee for Minister of Gender Equality and Family (Day before yesterday): (Why did you condone the discriminatory guidelines of the "underground organization"?) I will address that at the hearing.]
However, when she was a confirmation hearing committee member in the past, she launched sharp criticisms using past remarks made by then-nominee Kim regarding sexual self-determination.
[Yong Hye-in / Member of the Confirmation Hearing Committee for Minister of Gender Equality and Family Nominee (September 2023): (Nominee Kim) showed a pathetic perception of women's sexual self-determination, stating that 'tolerance is needed even for unwanted pregnancies.']
Rival parties are currently coordinating to hold Nominee Yong's confirmation hearing on the 18th.
[Yong Hye-in / Nominee for Minister of Gender Equality and Family (Day before yesterday): (If you refuse to answer, isn't this the same as the behavior of the privileged class you used to criticize?) …….]
