▲ Samsung Electronics and Mistral AI Sign Investment Agreement
South Korea and France adopted a variety of documents in various fields to develop bilateral exchanges and cooperation, building on the summit between President Lee Jae-myung and President Emmanuel Macron held locally on the 8th.
Among them, nine documents were adopted following the summit in the presence of the two leaders.
First, the two countries signed a protocol amending the General Security of Military Information Agreement (GSOMIA) to add reading restrictions, strengthening the protection of military secrets between them.
Through this, the presidential office explained that they have laid the groundwork to expand defense and arms industry cooperation by enhancing the stability and reliability of military information exchanges.
They also agreed to strengthen security and safety standards in bilateral aviation cooperation through an amended protocol to the aviation agreement.
The countries additionally signed memorandums of understanding (MOUs) containing provisions to pursue joint projects in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and quantum technology, as well as efforts to attract investment.
Furthermore, by adopting an implementing arrangement on space industry promotion cooperation, they decided to broaden the foundation for cooperation in cutting-edge industries.
In addition, they adopted an industrial cooperation and competitiveness MOU to solidify institutional cooperation foundations, such as establishing a new ministerial-level industrial strategy dialogue between the two nations.
Agreements involving private companies were also achieved.
Samsung Electronics agreed to participate as a strategic investor in the French AI startup Mistral AI and cooperate to develop an in-house AI model exclusively for Samsung Electronics that can protect semiconductor know-how, adopting an investment agreement containing these details.
While not signed in the presence of the president, there were also documents adopted on the occasion of President Lee's visit.
First, the police agencies of both countries signed a "Police Cooperation Agreement" to jointly respond to transnational crimes and join forces in tracking fugitive offenders.
In addition, the presidential office reported that the two nations plan to conclude a "Mutual Logistics Support Agreement" to ensure the promptness of military logistical support during peace and wartime, with detailed texts currently under negotiation, and that an MOU on nuclear research and development cooperation for joint research on next-generation small modular reactors (SMRs) is also scheduled to be signed on a separate occasion.
