Comedienne Lee Su-ji has ultimately taken legal action against malicious comments that crossed the line, even after she issued a handwritten apology acknowledging criticisms over her public servant parody sketch.
On the 8th, Lee Su-ji's agency, CP Entertainment, stated, "We have confirmed that malicious defamation, insults, personal attacks, distribution of false information, and defamatory posts and comments targeting Lee Su-ji continue to be posted and spread across online communities and social media." They added, "As this is a serious matter infringing upon the artist's reputation and rights, we are closely reviewing all related matters and responding thoroughly."
The agency emphasized, "We plan to take all necessary legal measures, including civil and criminal actions, against those who write, distribute, or spread malicious posts or comments," adding, "We will respond strictly with a zero-tolerance policy, without leniency or settlement, to protect our artist."
Previously, a satirical video titled "Keeping the Iron Rice Bowl of Public Servant Kim Ji-young" was uploaded on July 14 to a YouTube channel run by Lee Su-ji. The video, which satirized the realities of public servants such as malicious complaints, heavy workloads, and low pay, included a scene where a complainant shouts, "Re-election!" Criticisms arose that this scene depicted protesters demanding a re-election—related to a ballot paper shortage incident during local elections—as malicious complainers.
As the controversy grew, the production team apologized the next day, stating, "We sincerely apologize to everyone who felt discomfort and disappointment due to the video. The scene pointed out by many was not intended to convey a specific issue or political stance."
Lee Su-ji also released a handwritten apology on August 1, 18 days after the controversy erupted, stating, "I bow my head and sincerely apologize to everyone who felt discomfort and disappointment. Failing to respond and apologize quickly to those who were hurt is also my fault and responsibility, with no room for excuses," and added that she heavily accepts the fact that, regardless of her intention to create laughter, it ultimately caused hurt and discomfort to someone.
