The prosecution has demanded a prison sentence for a factory manager in his 30s who indiscriminately assaulted a migrant worker.
During the sentencing hearing for the defendant, identified as A, held before Judge Park So-min of Criminal Division 2 at the Suwon District Court today (Sept. 8), the prosecution requested a one-year prison term.
A was indicted and detained on charges of assault causing injury after allegedly punching and headbutting a Vietnamese worker in his 20s, identified as B, dozens of times in the dormitory of a cosmetics container manufacturing plant in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, in November of last year.
In the closing argument, A's defense counsel stated, "We fully admit to the facts of the indictment and bitterly regret the actions that caused injury to the victim," while also claiming, "Most of the approximately 20 headbutts listed in the indictment were at the level of pushing the victim with the head, and the extent of the injury was minor, requiring two weeks of medical treatment."
In a final statement, A briefly said, "I am sorry."
The sentencing hearing for A is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on the 29th.
