[Anchor] These days, foreigners really love kimchi and even make it themselves, but a video posted by one foreigner has sparked a wave of worry, right?
[Reporter] Recently, a foreigner uploaded a video on social media showing homemade kimchi fermenting inside a glass jar.
In the video, bubbles continuously rise inside the jar.
The uploader showed off the kimchi, calling it the look and sound of successfully fermented kimchi after 2.5 days, and boasted that it had a fizzy sensation hard to find in store-bought kimchi.
The video went viral with over 5 million views, but internet users' attention turned elsewhere.
Reactions poured in warning that "the jar looks like it's going to explode," "you need to switch to a plastic container," and "it could turn into a kimchi grenade."
Indeed, because kimchi generates gas during the fermentation process, pressure can build up inside sealed containers.
In response, the uploader reassured netizens by explaining that they release the gas every day—sometimes multiple times a day—and shared a follow-up post a few days later saying it turned out to be one of the best batches of kimchi they had ever made.
