Suspect in Murder of Chinese Student Claimed Fear of Losing Job Led to Crime, Fails Psychopath Criteria

A 31-year-old Chinese university lecturer arrested for murdering his romantic partner, a Chinese exchange student, and abandoning her body has been transferred to prosecutors in custody. The suspect claimed he committed the crime out of fear that news of their relationship would cause him to lose his job, while a psychopath test showed he did not meet the diagnostic criteria.

Gyeongsan Police Station in Gyeongbuk Province announced that it has transferred 31-year-old Chinese university lecturer Zheng Changxing (Jung Chang-sung) to prosecutors on charges of murder, as well as damaging, abandoning, and concealing a corpse.

Zheng Changxing is accused of strangling a Chinese exchange student in her 20s to death on August 20 at his residence in Gyeongsan, mutilating her body, and abandoning the remains across various parts of the country.

According to police investigations, Zheng stated that during an argument, the victim—with whom he had been in a romantic relationship—threatened to expose their relationship to the university, leading him to commit the crime in fear of losing his job.

Police explained that based on lie detector test results and various other circumstances, they presume the two were indeed in a romantic relationship.

Police also stated that they applied an additional charge of obstruction of official duties, as Zheng attempted to disrupt the investigation by traveling to Dongdaegu Station disguised in women's clothing while carrying a suitcase and the victim's mobile phone, and then falsely reporting that the victim had gone missing.

Although he initially refused, a psychopathy checklist test for antisocial personality disorder was ultimately conducted, resulting in a score below the threshold of 25 points for classification.

Police stated that they will continue searching for the remaining parts of the victim's body even after the transfer, while also investigating additional potential crimes, including allegations that Zheng coerced other female students by telling them they needed to stay on his good side to graduate.
