President Lee Jae-myung additionally declared the entire city of Tongyeong, South Gyeongsang Province, as a special disaster zone today (the 4th), following severe damage from torrential rains last August.
Kang Yu-jung, Senior Presidential Spokesperson, announced, "Following a joint central government investigation into the heavy rain that hit the southern region from August 15 to 18, causing extensive damage, the entire city of Tongyeong in South Gyeongsang Province has been additionally designated as a special disaster zone around 18:00 today."
She added, "This is a follow-up measure to the previous primary declaration on the 21st of last month, which designated all of Geoje and Sanyang-eup and Bongpyeong-dong in Tongyeong as special disaster zones."
Spokesperson Kang further stated, "We will promptly establish and support recovery plans to help affected residents return to their daily lives as soon as possible."
