Roberto Moreno, who has taken the helm as the interim manager of the crisis-stricken South Korean national football team, has expressed his ambitions, promising "hard work, honesty, and respect, and letting the results speak on the pitch."
Through his personal website, Moreno announced his appointment as the interim manager of the South Korean national football team, stating that he will lead the team through six A-matches until November 27.
Previously, the Korea Football Association held its 7th Board of Directors meeting for the year 2026 at the Korea Football Center in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province, on the 1st and approved the motion to appoint Moreno as the interim national team manager.
A coaching staff consisting of six members, including Manager Moreno, has been appointed.
At 48 years old, the relatively young manager served as an assistant coach for FC Barcelona from 2014 to 2017, briefly managed the Spanish national team in 2019, and subsequently led clubs such as AS Monaco (France), Granada (Spain), and PFC Sochi (Russia).
Taking charge as the interim leader of the Taegeuk Warriors, Moreno will manage a total of six A-matches: four games in September and October, and two games in November.
The Korea Football Association has included a contractual condition allowing him to extend his tenure through the 2027 AFC Asian Cup in January of next year, depending on the evaluation results of these six matches.
In his opening remarks, Moreno said, "It is a great honor to take charge of the South Korean national team, and I feel a profound sense of responsibility," adding, "I have known and respected South Korean football for a long time. Now is the time to dedicate myself to South Korean football."
Moreno emphasized, "I will not guarantee results with empty promises, but I pledge hard work, honesty, and respect," and added, "Whatever we want to say, we will show it only on the pitch."
