President Lee Jae-myung's state approval rating saw a slight decline from the previous week, breaking its record low since taking office, according to a Gallup Korea poll released on Friday.
In the survey, negative assessments of President Lee's governance outnumbered positive assessments by more than 10 percentage points.
According to the survey conducted by Gallup Korea from September 1 to 3 on 1,001 adults aged 18 and older nationwide, 40% gave a positive evaluation of President Lee's job performance, marking the lowest figure since his inauguration.
President Lee's approval rating dropped by 2 percentage points compared to the fourth week of August survey (42%) released on August 28.
Responses of "doing a poor job" stood at 51%, exceeding half for two consecutive weeks, while "undecided/no opinion" accounted for 9%.
Among those who gave positive evaluations, "economy and livelihood" was the most common reason at 14%, followed by "diplomacy" (13%), "doing well overall" (10%), "communication" (8%), and "real estate policy" (6%).
Reasons for negative evaluations included "real estate policy" (23%), "economy and livelihood" (11%), "personnel appointments" (9%), "moral issues and evading personal trials," and "doing poorly overall" (6% each).
In party support ratings, the Democratic Party of Korea recorded 38% and the People Power Party recorded 30%.
Compared to the previous week, the Democratic Party fell by 1 percentage point, while the People Power Party rose by 5 percentage points.
The Rebuilding Korea Party stood at 3%, the New Reform Party and Progressive Party at 1% each, and the proportion of respondents with no political affiliation was 25%.
This survey was conducted through telephone interviews using randomly sampled wireless virtual numbers.
The sampling error is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, the contact rate was 47.4%, and the response rate was 10.9%.
