A rescue worker safely rescues a man who was suddenly caught in a rapid current and holding his backpack tightly against his chest.
Houses along the river were swept away by fierce muddy waters, and cemeteries, whose foundations were weakened by continuous rain, collapsed beyond recognition.
This was due to Typhoon Soudelor, the 18th typhoon, bringing fierce wind and rain as it approached the southeastern coast of China.

Soudelor first made landfall in Yuhuan, Zhejiang Province, at around 8:05 AM on August 28, moved back out to sea, and then made landfall again about an hour later in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province.
It subsequently weakened into a tropical depression and moved to the South China Sea, but was revived as a typhoon after being resupplied with warm moisture from the sea on the 1st.
It made its third landfall in Zhangzhou, Fujian Province, at 6:30 AM today (the 3rd).
Yuhuan, Zhejiang Province, has already been hit by typhoons three times, following the 9th typhoon Babiand and the 13th typhoon Dolphin.

Torrential rains poured across the southern regions, including 460mm of rainfall recorded in Dongshan County, Fujian Province, as of 8:00 AM today.
Major ferry routes and marine construction projects were suspended, and about 20,000 residents in hazardous areas were evacuated.
Soudelor is forecast to dissipate after bringing more rain until tomorrow morning.
However, Chinese meteorological authorities predicted that two to three additional typhoons will make landfall in China this month, and their strengths are expected to be generally strong.
