A woman in her 20s who caused a traffic accident while driving without a license and framed her boyfriend in the passenger seat as the driver has been indicted.
The Jeonju District Prosecutors Office announced that it has indicted 23-year-old A on charges of instigating criminal evasion and violating the Road Traffic Act.
A is accused of driving without a license in July 2024, colliding with another vehicle, and then telling her boyfriend B, who was in the passenger seat, to falsely confess, "Tell them you were driving instead."
A even testified in court that B, rather than herself, was driving the car when the crash occurred.
However, prosecutors confirmed that the driver of the vehicle was A, not B, based on emergency response logs written by 119 paramedics who were dispatched to the scene.
Typically, when a vehicle is impacted in a crash, drivers naturally sustain injuries to their left shoulder and arm from hitting the vehicle body. Despite having injuries on her left arm, A had testified that she "was only sitting in the passenger seat."
When her crime came to light, A went on the run for several months, avoiding contact with investigative authorities.
Even after being arrested by prosecutors, she denied the charges with implausible statements, claiming, "I was sitting in the driver's seat, but my boyfriend was the one holding the steering wheel."
Prosecutors stated, "During B's trial, A's testimony seemed suspicious, so we re-examined the accident records and identified the person who actually drove the vehicle."
