The government announced the direction for the second phase of central administrative agency and public institution relocations today (the 3rd).
First, central government agencies, including the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Gender Equality, will relocate sequentially to Sejong City starting in the first half of next year.
Agencies requiring separate office buildings, such as the Prosecution Service, the Serious Crime Investigation Agency, and the National Police Agency, will be relocated after new buildings are constructed.
The government also announced that for some 350 public institutions in the greater Seoul area, it will release relocation plans during the fourth quarter of this year under the principle of minimizing the number of remaining entities, and begin relocations starting next year.
Rather than being distributed regionally in a piecemeal fashion, these public institutions are planned to be centrally deployed around innovation cities.
The government will also push for public institution reforms, reducing 109 institutions—accounting for about 20% of all public institutions—and integrating similar or overlapping bodies.
