According to education authorities today (the 3rd), Person A, a retired educator in her late 60s, was hired as a fixed-term teacher at the school for a six-month period and reported to work on the 1st.
On the day she started, Teacher A was cursed at by a 5th-grade student, B.
The school administration calmed down student B, who had acted aggressively over test papers inside a transparent folder being dirty, called her guardian, and had her leave early.
The following day, Teacher A was attacked after instructing student B to take the test again as soon as she arrived at school.
Student B suddenly rushed at Teacher A, kicking her, punching her in the head and face, and even grabbing and pulling her hair.
It was reported that student B had previously exhibited aggressive behavior, including using profanity against multiple teachers and students, and had been taking medication related to bipolar disorder.
Following the incident, the Chungcheongbuk-do Office of Education reportedly granted 10 days of teacher rights-related leave to Teacher A, who received hospital treatment.
Student B has been suspended from attending school until the 22nd.
However, education authorities plan to support the student by providing home-learning materials to ensure there is no gap in her education.
The Cheongju Office of Education is reportedly considering moving up the schedule for the Teacher Rights Protection Committee meeting regarding this incident, which was originally scheduled for the 23rd.
