The Ministry of the Interior and Safety held an inter-agency meeting on crowd safety management today (the 3rd) and decided to designate 50 outdoor and festival events nationwide as "key management targets for autumn crowds."
Events designated for key management include: ▲ events with a peak crowd of 30,000 or more (such as the Andong International Mask Dance Festival and Seongnam Drone Light Show); ▲ festivals held near bodies of water such as rivers and seas (such as the Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival and Pohang International Light Festival); and ▲ events using fire or explosive materials (such as the Seoul World Fireworks Festival and Busan Fireworks Festival).
The Ministry will dispatch pre-inspection teams and on-site situation managers to these festival and event venues to focus on inspecting whether safety management plans have been established, on-site safety personnel are deployed, facility safety is managed, and bottleneck areas such as entrances, stairs, and alleys are monitored.
In addition, on the day of the events, local governments, police, fire authorities, and other relevant agencies will jointly manage the on-site situation until visitors disperse safely.
In particular, for the Seoul World Fireworks Festival (September 4 to 5) and the Busan Fireworks Festival (November 7), which are expected to attract a peak crowd of 500,000 or more, joint government safety inspections will be conducted to eliminate risk factors in advance.
Kim Kwang-yong, head of the Disaster and Safety Management Office at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, emphasized, "As many large-scale events are being held across the country, we will do our utmost in safety management so that the public can safely enjoy autumn festivals."
