Amid escalating military clashes between the United States and Iran over control of the Strait of Hormuz, Iran has attacked a US military base in Kuwait, AFP reported.
The Kuwaiti military announced via social media on the 3rd local time that Kuwaiti air defenses are currently responding to hostile missile and drone attacks resulting from a heinous Iranian invasion.
Citing Iranian state TV, AFP reported that Iran targeted US military facilities in Kuwait.
Iranian state TV claimed that the purpose of this attack was as a response to American crimes against the Iranian people.
The United States and Iran have been engaged in renewed armed clashes over transit rights in the Strait of Hormuz since the 30th of last month, repeating a vicious cycle of attacks and retaliation.
On the 30th of last month, the US military struck two Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) rocket launchers used for laying mines on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz, and Iran responded by firing missiles at two US-stationed air bases in Jordan.
The United States also launched attacks targeting IRGC targets on the 1st, and is reportedly targeting two Iranian government-owned oil tankers in line with a new attack strategy called "tanker-for-tanker" approved by President Donald Trump.
The IRGC immediately issued a statement claiming to have shot down a US MQ-9 Reaper drone.
They stated that they attacked a US military base in Jordan with ballistic missiles and struck US forces stationed in Erbil, in Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdistan region.
The Iranian military also attacked US military bases in the Gulf region, including Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Kuwait.
In a statement, the Iranian military added that dozens of attack drones struck US radar systems and positions at the Al Dhafra and Al Minhad bases in the UAE, and that US radar facilities and troop gathering sites at the Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain were also targeted.
In addition, Iran claimed that during US airstrikes on the 1st, a bomb fell on a residential house where a wedding was taking place, resulting in massive civilian casualties, and warned that it would define this as a war crime and respond strongly with a new strategy.
