The government announced the direction for the second wave of relocating central administrative agencies and public institutions today (the 3rd).
First, central government bodies such as the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Gender Equality will be relocated to Sejong City sequentially starting in the first half of next year.
Institutions requiring separate office buildings, such as the Public Prosecutors Office, the Serious Crime Investigation Agency, and the National Police Agency, will be relocated after the construction of new buildings is completed.
The government also announced that for some 350 public institutions in the capital area, relocation plans will be announced during the fourth quarter of this year under the principle of minimizing those remaining, with relocations commencing next year.
These public institutions are planned to be placed in "concentrated deployment" centering around innovation cities, rather than a regional "pork-barrel" distribution.
The government will also embark on public institution reforms, cutting 109 institutions—accounting for about 20% of all public institutions—and integrating similar or overlapping bodies.
