The Venice International Film Festival, known alongside Cannes and Berlin as one of the world's top three international film festivals, has opened.
At the opening ceremony just moments ago, Hollywood actor George Clooney received the lifetime achievement award.
A total of 21 films, including Director Lee Chang-dong's new work "Possible Love," are competing for the Golden Lion, the festival's highest prize for best film.
The film is competing against works such as "Look Back" by Japanese master director Kore-eda Hirokazu.
This marks 24 years since Director Lee's film last entered the competition section at Venice, following "Oasis" in 2002.
Director Lee is expected to walk the red carpet alongside lead actors Sol Kyung-gu and Jeon Do-yeon.
