Around 2:30 AM today (September 2), in a residential area of Eupnae-dong, Buk-gu, Daegu.
A foreign car with its headlights on crashes directly into a parked 1-ton truck and a police car.
Police officers try to stop the vehicle by smashing the window with a baton.
[Get out! Stop doing that!]
Spouting profanities, the driver reverses the car in an attempt to escape.
[Hey, let's wait and see, you bastards!]
Police fired four live rounds into the tires and ultimately subdued the driver in his 30s, surnamed A, using a Taser.
One police officer was seriously injured in the process.
[Witness: The car was driving back and forth this way, and an officer who hasn't been on the job long tried to stop it, and it seems the car struck him around the leg....]
The reckless rampage began at around 1:40 AM.
A citizen report of suspected drunk driving was first filed in Beomeo-dong, Suseong-gu, Daegu, 20 kilometers away from where suspect A was apprehended. Six minutes later, an additional report was filed stating that a taxi driver had been assaulted on the road in Sincheon-dong, Dong-gu, Daegu.
Then, at 1:49 AM, he rammed into a dispatched patrol car in Taepyeong-dong, Jung-gu, Daegu, and fled the scene.
This is a road near the Gugu Tunnel in Buk-gu, Daegu.
Suspect A was confirmed to have picked a fight here as well, honking his horn and complaining that a 5.1-ton refrigerated truck ahead of him was driving too slowly, which ultimately led to a fender bender.
In just one hour, he drove through various parts of downtown Daegu and crashed into a total of 11 vehicles.
Suspect A refused a breathalyzer test.
The Daegu Gangbuk Police Station has apprehended and is currently investigating suspect A along with a passenger on charges of crashing into police cars and officers during his escape following the vehicle collisions.
