The movie "The Intern" has signaled box office success by recording the highest advance ticket sales among films targeting the Chuseok holiday.
According to the Korean Film Council's advance ticket sales figures on the afternoon of the 2nd, "The Intern" ranked second overall with an 8% reservation rate and 44,000 advance tickets sold. While there is a significant gap with the No. 1 film "The Odyssey" (55.4%, 300,000 tickets), it narrowly edged out its contemporaneous competitor "The Assassin(s)" (7.9%, 43,000 tickets).
"The Intern" is scheduled to open on September 16, and "The Assassin(s)" on September 23, setting up a Chuseok season showdown. Other competitors such as "Possible Love" and "REAWAKEN MAN: THE RED" have not yet opened ticket sales.
"The Intern" tells the story of an office life that transcends generations and ranks, beginning when Kiho (Choi Minsik), a 37-year-old silver intern, joins the company of Sunwoo (Han So-hee), who rapidly emerged as a dark horse in the fashion world three years after launch. It is a remake of the Hollywood film of the same name.
Ahead of its release, the first and second trailers surpassed a combined 20 million views, proving high interest from prospective audiences. As the earliest releasing film among the Chuseok lineup, "The Intern" will unveil itself through a press and distribution screening on the 4th. Depending on the reviews and reactions after the film is revealed, its reservation rate and ticket sales are likely to rise further.
"The Intern" can be met in theaters on September 16.
