Actor Sul Kyung-gu shared his special connection and behind-the-scenes stories with actor Kim Min-ha.
During a press interview for the Netflix series "The Field Mouse" (written by Lee Jae-gon, directed by Kim Hong-sun) held at a cafe in Jongno-gu, Seoul, on the afternoon of the 2nd, Sul talked about the production and expressed his deep affection for Kim Min-ha, with whom he has maintained a long-standing relationship.
On this day, Sul cheerfully clarified why Kim calls him and his wife Song Yoon-ah "Uncle Sul Kyung-gu" and "Sister Song Yoon-ah." He laughed and said, "I've known Min-ha since she was in the third grade of elementary school because of a close relationship with her parents. Back then, I was very active in my career, so to a young child, I naturally had to be an 'uncle'." He added, "Later on, as Min-ha grew up, she met Song Yoon-ah and comfortably started calling her 'sister,' and now she tells me to stop calling me 'uncle' and call me 'oppa' instead," bringing laughter to the scene.
Notably, Sul is also the person who provided the decisive turning point for Kim to pursue a career as an actor. Sul started by saying, "It was like a casual remark I threw out just happened to work out."
He recalled the situation in detail, saying, "When she was young, Min-ha was really shy. She was very introverted and couldn't even look people in the eye. But sometimes, after having drinks with her parents, we would go to a Noraebang (karaoke room), and I was genuinely shocked watching Min-ha sing. As soon as the song started, her expression completely transformed and she thoroughly enjoyed the stage. It was around her third year of high school, and I told her parents, 'What is up with her? You should make her an actor.' Her mother replied, 'Don't put strange ideas into a high school senior's head. Stop talking nonsense'."
He continued to express his pride, saying, "Acting isn't only for outgoing people. Seeing how her expression completely shifted when she sang led me to suggest it, and she actually changed her career path to become my university junior. Nowadays, she has a much wider network in the industry than I do and knows practically everyone."
Based on the webtoon of the same name, "The Field Mouse" is a tracking thriller depicting the story of novelist Mun-jae (played by Ryu Jun-yeol), who has his name, face, and life completely stolen by a mysterious entity known as "The Field Mouse," loan shark No-ja (played by Sul Kyung-gu), who tries to recover lost money, and detective Sun-yong (played by Lee Kyu-hyung) as they chase down the identity of the field mouse. In the series, Sul plays No-ja, a ruthless loan shark who stops at nothing to achieve his goals, charmingly portraying a multi-dimensional character that is rugged yet carries a subtle hint of human warmth.
All 10 episodes of "The Field Mouse" were released worldwide via Netflix on the 28th of last month. According to FlixPatrol on the 2nd, "The Field Mouse" is continuing its unstoppable global box office success, climbing to 6th place on the Global TOP TV Shows chart just four days after its release, and ranking 5th in the Netflix Global TV Shows (Non-English) category.
