Actor and singer Kim Min-jong has officially filed a defamation complaint against junior singer MC Mong.
Kim's legal representative, Law Firm Ohrims (Attorney Oh Sung-heon), announced on the 2nd that they submitted a complaint against MC Mong to the Seoul Jongno Police Station on the 1st, charging him with defamation under the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, etc.
Kim's side explained through this legal action, "As these claims spread through the media and online, not only has the reputation and trust I have built over approximately 38 years since my debut in 1988 been severely damaged, but substantial harm has also occurred, such as the suspension of discussions regarding a Hollywood project and two advertising contracts that were being concretely negotiated at the time."
They continued, "We can no longer overlook the damage caused by content that is clearly contrary to the facts," adding, "We will faithfully cooperate with the investigation process to clarify the facts and plan to proceed sequentially with necessary legal measures, including filing a civil lawsuit for damages." They also stated, "If additional acts of spreading or repeatedly posting false information of the same or similar nature are confirmed, we plan to take further legal measures, including an injunction prohibiting the dissemination of false information."
The law firm emphasized, "We can no longer watch our 38-year-old reputation and trust with fans be undermined by groundless claims," and stressed, "We will hold them accountable to the end according to the law and principles without any compromise."
Meanwhile, no official statement has yet been released by MC Mong's side.
This situation began last May when MC Mong raised suspicions during a TikTok live broadcast regarding a so-called "Badugi gambling ring."
At the time, MC Mong mentioned a multi-billion-won illegal gambling gathering involving Cha Jun-young, a relative of Cha Ga-won, chairperson of One Hundred Label, and stated, "There is someone who goes around room salons playing illegal online gambling while receiving tens of millions of won in tips by their side. That person is celebrity Kim Min-jong," explicitly mentioning his real name.
Not stopping there, MC Mong declared, "Go ahead and sue me. I have evidence. Let's go all the way," prompting Kim's side to immediately warn of legal action, calling it "clearly false information."
Subsequently, on August 18, a recording released by Lee Jin-ho, a former entertainment reporter turned YouTuber and presumed to be of One Hundred Label CEO Cha Ga-won, created a turning point.
In the recording, the person presumed to be Chairperson Cha stated, "Since Kim Min-jong was a visitor, there is no record whatsoever." Regarding points made that Kim had touched chips and received sanctions, the person replied, "I understand he didn't touch the chips. That staff member spoke directly with the dealer. He was just sitting next to Cha Jun-young."
