Bountiful rice harvesting has begun in Yeongdong, North Chungcheong Province.

Yeongdong County announced today (September 2) that a farmer surnamed Nam in Hadodae-ri, Sangchon-myeon, harvested Haedeulbyeo, an early-maturing rice variety, from a 0.5-hectare paddy field yesterday (September 1).

This marks the region's first rice harvest of the year, coming 128 days after the rice was transplanted on April 26.

Nam said, "I cultivated early-maturing rice to ship it out for Chuseok ancestral rituals. The joy of harvesting is even greater because the crop survived the severe drought this past summer and heavy rain last week."

Rice has been planted in about 800 hectares of paddy fields in the area this year.

Full-scale rice harvesting is expected to begin early next month.
