The victim who lost her life in a stabbing rampage at Times Square, a major tourist attraction in New York, has been identified as a vice president at Bank of America (BoA).
According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) and the New York Police Department (NYPD) on the 1st (local time), 32-year-old Erin Piacenti, a resident of New Jersey, was stabbed in the abdomen and killed in an attack near 7th Avenue and West 42nd Street close to Times Square in Manhattan at around 4:20 p.m. the previous day.
Piacenti was a vice president in BoA's global corporate and investment banking division.
A BoA spokesperson stated, "We are shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic death of our colleague," adding, "Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to her family and all who loved her."
A 68-year-old man who was attacked alongside her is receiving treatment at Bellevue Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
Police identified the woman who attacked them as 49-year-old Pamela Cisneros.
Police explained that during the incident, when Cisneros brandished a weapon and refused to surrender, officers deployed a taser before opening fire.
She was transported to the hospital but died.
Police are treating the incident as a "random and unprovoked attack."
