Iran Media Reports Launch of "Decisive Operation" Targeting U.S. Facilities in Middle East

Local media reported that in response to fresh U.S. airstrikes against Iran, the Iranian military abruptly launched a "decisive operation" targeting U.S. military facilities across the Middle East on September 1, local time.

Iran's semi-official Tasnim News Agency stated, "The Iranian military's decisive operation to counter the enemy, the United States, has begun," adding, "Iran's missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) are striking regional U.S. bases and key facilities as targets."

The U.S. Central Command posted on X, formerly Twitter, that day, stating, "U.S. forces began strikes against targets of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) at noon, Eastern Time."

According to Iranian state broadcaster IRIB and other sources, explosions were heard that day in areas including Bandar Abbas, home to a major port in southern Iran; Qeshm Island and Lavan Island in the Strait of Hormuz; and Asaluyeh, a key gas hub.

The broadcaster also reported that a civilian airport in Jiroft, southeastern Iran, was attacked.
