Man A, who fled immediately after the crime, was apprehended by the police at around 11:40 AM, some 4 hours and 20 minutes after the report was filed, at a motel in Suwon.
Man A, a current public official, was reportedly attempting to take his own life at the time of his arrest.
The deceased wife had reported Man A to the police a total of four times for domestic violence, including threats, starting from March of last year until recently.
However, the police stated that she expressed each time that she did not want Man A to be punished.
The wife, who had separated from Man A and entered into divorce proceedings, consulted with a police officer after suspecting that her address had been exposed during the document delivery process, and received a smart watch.
The court also issued temporary protection orders, including separating the couple's residences and banning approach within 100 meters.
On the day of the incident, the wife encountered Man A and made an urgent report using her smart watch, but ultimately could not prevent the tragedy.
Man A reportedly stated during police questioning, "I harbored a grudge after recently receiving the divorce complaint and thinking that the overall outcome regarding alimony, property division, and child custody and child support would be unfavorable to me."
