Rain signaling the arrival of autumn fell across the central regions today (Sept. 1), the first day of September.
The rain cloud bands developed as cold air from the north collided with warm air from the south, but they will gradually weaken and dissipate overnight. Light rain will continue slightly longer, mainly in the Chungcheong provinces, until tomorrow morning.
Meanwhile, right at the threshold of autumn, the 24th typhoon of the year, Krovan, formed today.
Currently, South Korea sits on the edge of the North Pacific high-pressure system, placing it effectively in the path of the typhoon.
However, starting tomorrow, dry air from the north is expected to push the high-pressure system eastward, directing the typhoon toward Japan.
For now, it is projected to move north toward the waters south of Kyushu, Japan, around this weekend.
The situation is still fluid, so we will need to continue monitoring its track.
As cold and dry air from the north moves in behind the rain clouds, early autumn's cool air will be felt during the mornings and evenings as the latter half of the week approaches.
However, warm air still lingers in the southern regions.
Heat advisories remain in effect there.
Tomorrow, daytime temperatures in Busan and Gwangju are expected to rise to 32°C (90°F), while Seoul will see a relatively mild high of 29°C (84°F).
From the day after tomorrow through the weekend, rain is forecasted to continue for extended periods, mainly in the Gangwon Yeongdong and Jeju regions, due to the influence of easterly winds.
