President Lee Jae-myung has nominated Pusan National University Professor Kye Seung-gyun as the chairperson of the Presidential Council on Intellectual Property.
Kang Yu-jung, Senior Presidential Spokesperson, described the newly nominated chairperson Kye as "a legal scholar well-versed in intellectual property legislation whose expertise extends to AI and public contracts, and an expert who has contributed to the development of intellectual property policies and legal systems through various government committee and academic society activities."
She further emphasized that he is "the right person to proactively respond to changes in the new technology environment such as AI and digital transformation, and to make intellectual property a core driving force of national growth beyond its creation and protection."
She also expressed expectations that he will "enhance the expertise and effectiveness of the Presidential Council on Intellectual Property to faithfully perform its role as the control tower for national intellectual property strategies."
Chairperson Kye, an expert in intellectual property law, currently serves as a professor in the Convergence Division at Pusan National University while also working as the president of the Korea Intellectual Property Society and a non-executive commissioner of the Korea Copyright Commission.
