The government will expand K-culture industry-related policy finance to 700 billion won next year and invest 900 billion won to support artists' creative activities.
In addition, 65.9 billion won has been allocated to create five mega-tourism zones to spread inbound tourists to regional areas.
According to the 2027 budget proposal passed at the Cabinet meeting today, the budget for the culture, sports, and tourism sector was finalized at 11.6099 trillion won, a 20.4 percent (1.9679 trillion won) increase from this year.
By sector, 5.9372 trillion won has been allocated to the culture and arts sector, up 30.1 percent (1.3738 trillion won) from this year; 1.8333 trillion won to the sports sector, up 7.9 percent (134.6 billion won); and 1.758 trillion won to the tourism sector, up 18.8 percent (277.6 billion won).
The national heritage sector was allocated 1.6645 trillion won, an increase of 11.2 percent (167.4 billion won), while the cultural tourism sector was set at 416.7 billion won, up 3.6 percent (14.3 billion won).
Specifically, 2.8 trillion won is scheduled to be injected into strengthening the global competitiveness of content and vitalizing the tourism industry. Policy finance for creating global content will be expanded from 500 billion won to 700 billion won this year, and a budget of 10 billion won has been allocated to support the growth of new content companies.
New projects include support for global frontier game production (6 billion won) and indie music support, including hub creation (16 billion won).
The movie support budget was increased from 133.2 billion won to 172.6 billion won.
In addition, 65.9 billion won was newly allocated to create five mega-tourism zones centered around regional airports, and 15 billion won was newly reflected in the budget to support the spread of K-culture linked with "Phenomenon".
Phenomenon is a large-scale K-pop-centered festival modeled after the "Korean-version Coachella".
The scale of the vacation support project, which supports domestic travel expenses for workers, will also increase from 10.7 billion won this year to 22 billion won.
In addition, to broaden opportunities for citizens to enjoy culture, the eligibility for the youth culture and arts pass has been expanded to all young people.
Its usage will also be expanded from performances, exhibitions, movies, and books to sports, and the related budget will be significantly increased from 40 billion won to 792.5 billion won.
