Trains running in both directions on Seoul Subway Line 2 briefly bypassed Seoul National University Station after smoke and an odor were detected from the lower part of an escalator.

According to Seoul Metro, following a report received at around 1:28 p.m. today (Sept. 1), trains passed through Seoul National University Station without stopping for about 19 minutes starting at 1:40 p.m.

Normal operations have since resumed.

No casualties have been reported from the smoke.

An official from Seoul Metro said, "It appears to have been caused by a mechanical issue in the drive system," adding, "We are currently investigating the exact cause."
