People Power Party Floor Leader Jeong Jeom-sik stated, "President Lee Jae-myung must withdraw the nomination of lawmaker Kim Seung-won for Minister of Justice and declare five words: 'I will stand trial.'"
During the floor countermeasures meeting held this morning (Sept. 1), Floor Leader Jeong remarked regarding candidate Kim, "President Lee has chosen the most suitable candidate for a justice minister in charge of canceling indictments, who will take the lead to dismiss his own trial."
He went on to point out, "All six ministerial candidates currently appear to fall short of public expectations, and among them, the most serious appointment—meaning the top priority for nomination withdrawal—is none other than Justice Minister nominee lawmaker Kim."
Jeong mentioned, "Nominee Kim drew widespread public criticism in July 2020 when he was seen smiling and chatting brightly in front of a TV broadcasting heavy rain special reports while flood damage and casualties occurred in Daejeon, and he has routinely volunteered to be at the forefront of canceling indictments."
He continued, "While former Minister Jeong Sun-gho showed at least a minimal awareness regarding the cancellation of indictments, nominating lawmaker Kim, a hardliner who will not care about even minimal discretion, sends a message to the public that the top state affairs priority in the second year of the administration is canceling indictments," adding, "Lawmaker Kim lacks the qualifications to oversee justice administration."
