England's Premier League club Liverpool, having sent Mohamed Salah to the Turkish league, has signed French national team winger Bradley Barcola, 23.
Liverpool announced the signing of Barcola, formerly of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), on its official website yesterday (August 31, Korea time).
The club stated, "After passing his medical and finalizing the transfer process, Barcola signed a long-term contract at the AXA Training Centre."
Barcola's squad number is 29.
While the club did not disclose specific contract terms, British media outlets such as the BBC estimated that the contract is for five years with a transfer fee reaching up to 123 million pounds (approx. 228 billion won).
Local media reports indicate that Liverpool will pay a base transfer fee of 106 million pounds, with an additional 17 million pounds possible through add-on clauses.
If the options are met, this will be the second-highest transfer fee in Liverpool's history, following the 125 million pounds paid to bring Alexander Isak from Newcastle United (England) last summer.
Furthermore, it surpasses Morgan Rogers' 117 million pounds transfer from Aston Villa to Chelsea, marking the highest transfer fee paid by a Premier League club this summer.
PSG was initially known to have set Barcola's valuation at around 145 million pounds.
The BBC explained the significance of this transfer by noting that Barcola will add depth to a Liverpool squad weakened by Salah's departure, Hugo Ekitike's long-term injury, and the potential transfer of Cody Gakpo.
Barcola joined PSG from Olympique Lyonnais (France) in 2023 for a transfer fee of 45 million euros (approx. 52 million dollars).
During his three years at PSG, where he also played alongside South Korean national team player Lee Kang-in (Atlético Madrid), he made a total of 152 appearances, scoring 39 goals and providing 35 assists.
He also contributed to PSG's consecutive UEFA Champions League titles, three Ligue 1 league titles, and two Coupe de France victories.
As a member of the French national team, he participated in the 2026 North and Central America World Cup, appearing in all 8 of the team's matches and scoring 3 goals.
Barcola had two years remaining on his contract with PSG.
However, he faced fierce competition for a starting forward spot alongside players including 2025 Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembélé, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Désiré Doué, and Ferran Torres.
