Hayoung, who has faced heavy backlash over controversy surrounding her pro-Japanese ancestor, is ultimately stepping down from the upcoming seasons of the Netflix original series "The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call".
On the 1st, Netflix stated regarding Hayoung's departure, "Respecting the actor's position, actor Hayoung will not be appearing in the subsequent parts of 'The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call'." However, regarding a replacement casting or future production schedules, the platform remained cautious, stating, "It is difficult to confirm."
Previously, Hayoung had mentioned her family history through various broadcasts, stating that her family had been in the medical field for four generations, stretching from her great-grandfather to her older sister. However, it was later revealed that her great-grandfather was Ahn Sang-ho, who served as a council member for the pro-Japanese organization Daejeong Chinmokhoe, drawing fierce criticism.
Her agency initially denied the claims, calling them "groundless," but as continuous evidence emerged, they reversed their position and apologized, stating, "As a result of additional verification, we confirmed that records exist." Hayoung also bowed her head in a handwritten apology, stating, "While searching for the relevant materials myself, I learned of my great-grandfather's pro-Japanese actions. I reflect on having casually mentioned my family history without properly understanding the painful history of our country, which endured the Japanese colonial period." She added, "I accept that fault heavily and sincerely apologize as a descendant. I will closely examine my family's history and that era, and adopt a much more cautious attitude toward history moving forward."
"The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call" depicts the events that unfold when genius trauma surgeon Baek Kang-hyuk (played by Ju Ji-hoon) is appointed to a university hospital trauma team where deficits pile up the more patients he saves. Following its release in January of last year, season 1 received immense love, prompting plans to simultaneously produce seasons 2 and 3.
Hayoung, who played the role of nurse Cheon Jang-mi in the series, was scheduled to appear in the new seasons as well, but ultimately decided to step down due to the negative public sentiment surrounding the controversy over her pro-Japanese ancestry.
