Manchester City of the English Premier League (EPL) has moved closer to signing Everton winger Iliman Ndiaye (26, Senegal), who was initially expected to transfer to Tottenham Hotspur.
British public broadcaster BBC reported on the 1st (Korean time) that "Manchester City has reached an agreement with Everton for the transfer of Ndiaye for a fee reaching up to 65 million pounds (approx. 111.2 billion KRW)."
Born to a Senegalese father and a French mother, Ndiaye debuted professionally with EPL side Sheffield United in 2019, passed through Marseille (France), and has been playing for Everton since July 2024.
Having also played for the Senegal national team, Ndiaye featured in the 2026 North and Central America World Cup and even scored against Iraq.
Initially, Ndiaye was set to leave Everton and head to Tottenham.
The setup was for Tottenham forward Richarlison to return to his former club Everton, while Ndiaye moved to Tottenham.
However, Richarlison failed to reach an agreement in personal negotiations with Everton, ultimately causing Ndiaye's transfer to Tottenham to fall through.
Having missed out on Ndiaye, Tottenham is now eyeing a loan move for Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk.
Richarlison shared his feelings on his social media, stating, "It was my intention to return to the club I loved, but negotiations proceeded in a way certain people wanted, so I decided not to let it go that way anymore. I still have a contract with Tottenham and will follow the club's policy."
In the end, Manchester City, which sought to reinforce its forward line, sent a call to Ndiaye after his move to Tottenham collapsed and reached an agreement with his club Everton over the transfer fee, putting them on the verge of securing his signature.
However, Manchester City's efforts to recruit Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo are in danger of falling through.
Liverpool, having successfully signed Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) forward Bradley Barcola, had planned to permit Gakpo's departure if they brought in additional attacking resources.
Liverpool targeted Yankuba Minteh (Brighton) and Ismaila Sarr (Crystal Palace), but reportedly struggled to agree on transfer terms, increasing the likelihood that Gakpo will stay.
