Rain Clouds from Heavy Southern Downpours Moving North... Strong Rain in Central Regions Until Morning

Let us take a closer look at the detailed weather forecast. The stationary front that poured heavy rain over the Honam region and the west coast is moving northward little by little. Strong rain is expected to continue in Chungcheong and the greater Seoul metropolitan area until tomorrow (Sept. 1).

Rain fell throughout the afternoon in the greater Seoul metropolitan area, including Seoul.

This is because the rain clouds that had been stretching across the southern regions gradually moved north, affecting Chungcheong and the metropolitan area.

Here is today's precipitation for the day.

On the screen, darker colors indicate areas with heavier rainfall, and the heavy rain was concentrated mainly around the Honam region and the west coast.

A downpour of 344 mm hit Nakwol-do Island in Yeonggwang, and over the past two days, an astonishing 550 mm of rain fell.

In particular, Nakwol-do Island was hit by an extreme downpour of 107.5 mm per hour at dawn today.

Buan also recorded 62.1 mm per hour, and Gochang 51.4 mm, concentrating very heavy rain mainly in the Honam region.

Rain has continued in the southern regions for five days as of today, with around 300 mm of rain pouring in various parts of Honam and Chungnam over the five-day period.

This amounts to one-fourth or one-fifth of the total annual precipitation.

This is because a warm high-pressure system from the south has been expanding its influence while cold air pushed down from the north, causing a stationary front to affect areas mainly centered around Honam.

In addition, the influx of water vapor overnight allowed the rain clouds to develop even more explosively.

As rain continues in the southern regions until tonight and in the greater Seoul metropolitan area until tomorrow morning, more than 100 mm of rain is expected in many areas along the west coast of Chungcheong, while 10 to 60 mm of rain is forecasted for the greater Seoul metropolitan area and other parts nationwide.

Afterwards, while the southern regions will come under the influence of the high-pressure system, occasional showers are expected in some areas.
