Man in 70s Dies After Falling Into Stream in Daegu Amid Rain

A citizen in their 70s has died after falling into an urban stream in Daegu while it was raining.

According to the Daegu Fire and Safety Headquarters and other sources today (August 31), Mr. A, in his 70s, was found fallen into the water near a stepping stone across the Sincheon Stream in Icheon-dong, Nam-gu, Daegu, at 8:50 p.m. the previous day.

Fire authorities were dispatched following a joint response request from the police and transported Mr. A to a hospital in a state of cardiac arrest.

Mr. A was subsequently pronounced dead.

Police presume that Mr. A suffered the accident after falling into the water while crossing the stepping stones, and are currently investigating the exact circumstances.

Approximately 45.7 mm of rain fell in Daegu the previous day, and it was understood that access to the Sincheon Stream had not been completely restricted.

Regarding this, an official from Nam-gu stated, "It was not raining enough to issue a heavy rain warning at the time of the accident, so access to the Sincheon Stream itself was not restricted." The official added, "However, we understand that the Daegu city government had installed access control lines for the stepping stones near the accident site as the water level of the stream rose."
