An oil tanker has been attacked in the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Oman.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) announced that a vessel was hit by an unidentified projectile in waters near Oman on the 30th local time.
According to reports, the attack took place the previous day in waters about 12 nautical miles north of the Omani village of Al-Khasab.
The UKMTO added on X (formerly Twitter) that no casualties or environmental damage have been reported so far.
Authorities are currently investigating the incident, but the perpetrators behind the attack remain unclear.
Following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to end the war with the United States, Iran has claimed control over the Strait of Hormuz based on the provisions of the MOU, attacking vessels that pass through the strait outside of the designated routes it has set.
In an additional statement, the UKMTO reported that aggressive and threatening acts by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) continue within the Strait of Hormuz, including drone flights, surveillance targeting merchant ships, and intermittent radio transmissions.
The UKMTO analyzed that these actions indicate Iran's intention to maintain pressure on vessels passing through the strait.
