Actor Lee Yong-joo, who played a new recruit in the 2013 tvN series "Blue Tower," passed away on the 29th, and the cast members who shared a deep and long-lasting friendship gathered together at his wake.
Following the news of his passing, fellow "Blue Tower" cast member Kim Ho-chang posted a group photo taken with colleagues at the wake on his social media on the 30th to mourn the deceased. The photo showed actors Song Young-jae, Kim Ho-chang, Baek Bong-ki, and producer Min Jin-ki accompanying him on his final journey.
Kim Ho-chang wrote, "When I told the older brothers recently that I was quitting acting, you said, 'Ho-chang, you will do well. Please, out of all the Tower family members, don't give up even as the youngest and go all the way, my intuition is good.' I'll trust you, hyung, and go all the way. I hope you aren't in pain and are happy there. We'll go see you soon with the others."
Previously, in an interview with this outlet, Lee Yong-joo looked back on his chemistry with colleagues from diverse backgrounds, including Choi Jung-hoon, Kim Jae-woo, Baek Bong-ki, Jung Jin-wook, and Kim Ho-chang, calling it an "exquisite casting." He expressed his affection for his colleagues, saying, "Seeing Kim Jae-woo, a master of ad-libs, Kim Ho-chang with his psycho acting, and Baek Bong-ki and Jung Jin-wook with their unavoidable charm, sometimes made me feel a sense of crisis that I needed to do even better."
After the end of the "Blue Tower" series, Lee Yong-joo appeared in supporting and cameo roles in various projects and continued his YouTube activities. However, he had effectively stepped away from acting since 2022 to focus on personal business before passing away from cardiac arrest on the morning of the 29th after his chronic condition, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, worsened. He was 44 years old.
