South Korean women's taekwondo star Kim Yu-jin (Ulsan City Sports Council), who is set to compete in the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, has won a bronze medal at the World Taekwondo (WT) World Taekwondo Women's Open Championship.
On the final day of the tournament held at the Shanxi Sports Center in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, China, today (August 30), Kim suffered a comeback defeat in the women's 57kg semifinals against Fadia Farhan of Jordan, losing 1-2 in round scores (4-0, 7-9, 3-12) to take home the bronze medal.
The 2024 Paris Olympic gold medalist failed to advance to the finals at this international tune-up event ahead of the Asian Games, narrowly missing out on the gold.
Hong Hyo-rim (Yongin University), competing in the women's 67kg division, also claimed a bronze medal.
Hong was defeated 0-2 in round scores (0-8, 4-10) by Styliani Marentaki of Greece in the semifinals.
South Korea sent nine athletes across eight weight classes to the tournament, wrapping up the competition with two bronze medals.
