The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced that following the issuance of heavy rain advisories for the Jeonnam-Gwangju, Ulsan, Jeonbuk, and Gyeongbuk regions, it upgraded the heavy rain disaster crisis alert from "Attention" to "Caution" and activated Level 1 of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters starting at 5:00 p.m. today (August 30).
Yun Ho-jung, head of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters, instructed relevant agencies and local governments to thoroughly monitor the situation based on real-time data, as localized heavy rain accompanied by thunder and gusty winds is expected in various parts of the country.
He also ordered the strengthening of cooperative systems among relevant agencies such as the police, fire authorities, and local governments, and the establishment of a seamless emergency response system through prompt situation sharing.
Yun urged, "As rainfall is forecasted during the weekend and nighttime hours, we ask citizens to check weather information frequently and refrain from approaching dangerous areas such as rivers and valleys."
He added, "We kindly ask for your active cooperation with the authorities' disaster information checks and instructions for control and evacuation."
