South Korean women's football star Ji So-yun has sparked controversy after claiming she was subjected to sexually harassing remarks by a female referee during a league match.
Around the 30th minute of the first half in yesterday's (August 28) match between Suwon FC Women and Seoul City Hall, Suwon's Ji So-yun can be seen strongly protesting to the refereeing crew.
She even threw a water bottle, looking visibly furious.
The match was halted for about four minutes, and Ji claimed she protested after hearing a referee make sexually harassing remarks directed at her over the wireless communication system during the game.
Suwon FC, which won the match 2–1 thanks to Ji's comeback-winning goal in the second half, plans to issue a statement soon, while the Women's Football Federation stated it plans to look into the situation on its own.
