The Korean Basketball League (KBL) has refined its compensation rules applicable when unsigned free agents (FAs) return to the domestic league.
The KBL announced today (the 28th) that it held its 1st Extraordinary General Meeting and 1st Board of Directors meeting for the 32nd term at the KBL Center in the morning, approving these agenda items.
According to the board's decision, the existing FA negotiation procedures will remain in place.
However, if an unsigned FA advances to an overseas league and later returns to the KBL to sign with a different club, the signing club must compensate the former original club based on the salary ranking announced at the time they went unsigned.
Under current regulations, acquiring an FA requires giving up substantial compensation money or compensation players to the original team, and this measure is intended to prevent circumventing compensation rules through overseas league advancement.
On the other hand, it was decided that players who have spent three years without a contract and without any history of advancing to an overseas league will be exempt from compensation requirements when transferring to another club.
Meanwhile, during the extraordinary general meeting, the KBL approved agenda items changing the new owner of the Daegu KOGAS Pegasus to Hong Eui-rak and appointing Anyang Red Bookmakers (Anyang JungKwanJang) General Manager Ham Chang-sik as a new KBL board director.
In addition, the game rules, tournament operation guidelines, and uniform regulations for the upcoming 2026-2027 season were finalized.
